OUR STORY

House of Mind was established to help people connect to their bodies, minds, and communities. We use traditional practices such as yoga and mindfulness, in a non-dogmatic manner, which are backed by empirical research.

With a focus on increasing accessibility, we build a bridge between modern and ancient resources, with the benefit of providing services to enhance wellbeing which are accessible and empowering. We often work in locations that you wouldn't expect to see the contemplative practices, so we can flow free of preconceptions and just focus on the benefits.

WHAT WE DO

Taking a unique approach that merges mindfulness, yoga and science, we currently teach yoga and mindfulness to individuals on a 1:1 basis and small groups. We also host classes and workshops for corporate clients.

The practices we teach help people connect to the present moment, which can bring a multitude of research-backed cognitive benefits including the reduction of stress and overall sense of well-being.

Physical and physiological improvements are also implicated, such as improved heart-rate variability, lower blood pressure, and cardiovascular health.

Some of the possible ways you can benefit from committing yourself to the present moment through our practices…

Reduce Stress & Anxiety

Relieve Depressive Symptoms

Prevent Mind Wandering & Improve Attention

Improved Heart Rate Variability

Lower Blood Pressure

Optimal Cardiovascular Health

MEET THE FOUNDER

Emily Thomas is a sharp and empathetic mind-body expert with over 10 years of experience in the field of psychology and mental health. She is an experienced Yoga and Mindfulness instructor, teaching Ashtanga-based yoga and mindfulness meditation to individuals, small groups, and corporations in London and Europe.

Emily helps her clients to centre themselves, find new perspectives, and catalyse transformation by combining ancient wisdom and modern research-based contemplative approaches. Her journey with yoga and mindfulness began accidentally while battling burn-out during the completion of her Cognitive Neuroscience MSc, and experimenting with ways to be productive yet feel well.

She fell in love with the grounding yet strengthening and invigorating practice of Ashtanga yoga and later travelled to Mysore, India to train on a 200hr YTT, where she discovered the practice of mindfulness.

Her interest in the neurological basis of contemplative practice led her to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychopharmacology. Yoga and mindfulness helped her navigate through the challenges of the program, and she has since completed advanced yoga teacher training in Rocket Yoga and Yin Yoga in London, and Mindfulness instructor training in Devon, UK.

She is grateful to her teachers and those who came before her for making these practices available to us, and intends to make contemplative practices more accessible to people who may need them, regardless of their means.

Emily lives on a boat in East London with her four-legged ally - Biene. Apart from teaching and helping people to connect with themselves, she is passionate about nature, photography, and is often found contemplating the reflections of light that come from the water surrounding her home.
